Project: '85 Z28 Camaro
Description: This 1985 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is a long-term Street Thunder project car owned by Street Thunder Senior Editor Eric Anderson. Eric began modifying this car nine years ago with the goal of creating a capable street car first and a well-performing track car second. His interest in turning corners and braking has led to a number of suspension and chassis modifications as well as the addition of a C5 Corvette brake system, all of which have made the car a solid performer both on and off track.
The drivetrain in Eric’s bright red Camaro consists of a 396ci LT1 V-8, which made a street friendly 552-horsepower and 484 ft.-lbs. of torque at the flywheel, and a T56 six-speed transmission, both of which help set it apart from other third generation F-Bodies. The SS style hood, ’91-’92 Z28 ground effects and rear spoiler, and the ZR1-style wheels give this car an updated look.Plans call for exhaust and brake system refinements as well as a few interior upgrades, including gauges, seats, and safety restraints (five-point harnesses). |
